OpenStudy (ttop0816):

The line of symmetry of the parabola whose equation is y = ax^2 - 4x + 3 is x = -2. What is the value of "a"? -2 -1 -1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first coordinate of the vertex, and also the "axis of symmetry" is given by \[x=-\frac{b}{2a}\] in your case \(b=-4\) and the answer is \(-2\) so you can set \[-\frac{-4}{2a}=-2\] and solve for \(a\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really you would write \[\frac{2}{a}=-2\] and solve that for \(a\)

OpenStudy (ttop0816):

-1!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oui

OpenStudy (ttop0816):

yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yes
