Just check my work please :) Fan + Medal :)

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Paul teaches the guitar in groups of three students. He rents a room for the guitar classes at $250 per month. He charges $30 per hour per student. Paul teaches six groups of students, and his net earnings per month are $1,910.

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Part A: If each student learns guitar for the same number of hours, write an equation that can be used to calculate the number of hours each student learns guitar in a month. (5 points) Part B: How many hours did each student learn guitar each month? Show your work and justify each step of your work. (5 points)

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

What I said: For A: 540x-250=1910 where x is the number of hours each student learns guitar in a month. For B: 540x-250=1910 540x = 2160 x = 40 The answer would be each student learns the guitar 4 hours each month

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

where do you get 540x from in part A ?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

well actually it is 18(30x)-250=1910 but I simplified it

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

making it 540x-250=1910

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

am I right @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

how to you get `18`(30x)-250=1910 ? He teaches 6 groups of students, and we don't know how many are there in each group.

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

hmm... what would you have done?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

All I am doing is reading what you wrote in the directions of the question. `6` `(30x)` `-250` `=` `1910` with this I am going only for each group. You aren't given how many people are there in a group, so how would I know about EACH student ?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

I dont know.... but if i do 18(30x)-250=1910 then x = 4 exactly
