How did the US coastline provide an advantage for the south during the civil war

It provided an advantage because of its length - it took longer to travel, which, therefore, made it hard to capture Does that answer your question?

During the Civil War the North formed a blockade off of the Southern US coast. the complexity (sorry cant think of a better word :) made it easier for blockade runners to hide from the North and get goods into the South from Britain.

Great Britain gave the Confederate army supplies, and men at times, and the water was the only way from point A to point B. So this was a great advantage, with out it the rebellion wouldn't have stood a chance.
