Patty and Tina were exposed to the mumps at school. Neither Patty nor Tina has ever had the mumps before, but several years ago Tina was given the mumps vaccine, which was made from the killed virus. Patty's mother had mumps as a child, and she is worried that Patty and her 2-month-old baby sister, who is breast-feeding, will get the mumps. Who is most likely to get the mumps and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Patty's mom is, because her memory cells for the mumps virus have expired. The baby is, because she is too young to have passive immunity to the virus. Tina is, because the virus was dead in the vaccine she was given. Patty is, because she has no active or passive immunity to the virus.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Its a wonderful question

OpenStudy (abhisar):

This will be because the baby is breastfeeding and hence she is getting passive immunity through mother (as she had mumps in childhood), so baby has less chance to get mumps

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Tina is vaccinated, so she has less chance of getting mumps

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Patty's mother had mumps during childhood, so she is immune against mumps now

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Only patty is left !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

r u getting my points ?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Yeah, an Interesting Topic, but @ispike waits for a direct answer, i guess so. hey @Abhisar already gave off all the hints and just stopped close to the answer, So what's it ? Nice to meet You !! Have A Good Day !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara thank you for your opinion but actually my power went out and it exited out of my test so I couldn't reply and I couldn't even get to my test. Thank you again for your opinion not that I ever cared or that it ever matter. You too have a wonderful day and next time why don't you think about what you say before you decide to be rude to a stranger! @Abhisar thank you you've been a great help!

OpenStudy (abhisar):
