Lamarck's idea of "Use and Disuse" proposed that A. traits are passed down from parent to offspring. B. the continents were slowly moving. C. in animals, traits that are used often will grow and change shape. D. the continents were moving quickly.

@quintonb16 So, use and disuse. Does that bring any imagery to your mind? How about this, Lamarck would say that Michael Jordan's children should be great at basketball, from birth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@quintonb16 The key here is that Lamarck would believe that if Michael Jordan had to practice 16 hours a day for 20 years to be great at basketball, his children would be able to inherit that greatness that their father gained by practice. On the flip side, if Jordan's father was a great pianist but Jordan never played he would lose the ability and Jordan's children would have lost the ability as well.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Lamarck said that in animals, traits that are used often will grow/develop better and these acquired traits can be then passed down to the progeny

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@quintonb16 Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar Don't forget, he also thought that traits that were ignored/not used would become less developed in the individual and across generations.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yes that's true @mrdoldum , hence the name use & DISUSE theory
