Find the standard form of the equation of the parabola with a focus at (0, 6) and a directrix at y = -6. Lol you should help me.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so I use the form \[(x - h)^2 = 4a(y - k)\] to start a question of this type... the vertex is (h, k) The distance from the vertex to the focus is a which is also the distance from the vertex to the directrix. then the distance from the focus to the directrix is 2a |dw:1402429771204:dw| the vertex is on the line of symmetry midway between the focus and directrix. hope it helps
