The difference between liverworts and hornworts is that: a.) in the hornworts sex organs can be borne on the same thallus c.) in the liverworts sex organs can be borne in the same thallus b.) only liverworts have antheridia (sperm-producing structures) d.) only hornworts have archegonia (egg-producing structures)

OpenStudy (phebe):

Unlike liverworts, most hornworts have true stomata on the sporophyte as mosses do. The exceptions are the genera Notothylas and Megaceros, which do not have stomata. Liverworts are typically small plants that are often overlooked. They frequently have the appearance of small irregular leaf-like plaques, often covering large areas of the ground but they may also occur on rocks, trees or any other reasonably firm substrate. They can also take on a form very much like flattened mosses. They most often occur in damp locations and are typically found in moderate to deep shade. Some species can be a nuisance in shady green-houses. They do not have flowers or seeds. Liverworts were originally thought to cure liver complaints hence the name. Hornworts are a group of bryophytes, or non-vascular plants, comprising the division Anthocerotophyta. The common name refers to the elongated horn-like structure, which is the sporophyte. The flattened, green plant body of a hornwort is the gametophyte plant. Hornworts may be found world-wide, though they tend to grow only in places that are damp or humid. Some species grow in large numbers as tiny weeds in the soil of gardens and cultivated fields. Large tropical and sub-tropical species of Dendroceros may be found growing on the bark of trees.
