Asthma is caused by a combination of environmental and genetic interactions. In any case it is overreaction of immune system towards foreign antigens which may not be harmful like pollen grains, dust etc

Asthma doesn't have to have any specific trigger - I have asthma and it can happen just for exhaustion or overheating. You don't specifically need an antigen. Conditions can be an issue, too, like heart disease. It's a reaction.
