x2 + 15x - 2 = 0 x2 + 15x + 58 = 0 4x2 + 30x - 2 = 0 4x2 + 30x + 58 = 0

You want the area of the outer rectangle in your diagram to be 58. The area of this outer rectangle is equal to its length times its width. The length is equal to 8+2x, and the width is equal to 7+2x. So the area, which is supposed to be 58, is \[58=(8+2x)(7+2x)\] Which you can expand out to get a polynomial.
