Which statement best explains why the issue of slavery contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War? The economies of the Confederate states relied on slave labor. Fugitive slaves from the South were creating social tensions in the North. Settlers in newly acquired territories did not want to allow slavery in their states. The federal government refused to take action to suppress slave uprisings in the South.
wow! okay. the last one is incorrect because there really weren't that many slave uprisings and the ones that did occur were very quickly put down.
so out of thows 4 answers which on is most correct
the second one is incorrect because the government had just passed a law known as the Fugitive Slave Act. it did create tension in the North but did not help lead to the war.
Also the third one is incorrect because not all settlers were against slavery.
the first one is correct. the South saw the trade laws the government was passing as encroaching on their way of life. it is the excuse they used to secede.
thanks your the best
