The circumference of a circle is 36πcm² What is the area of the circle?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Circumference = 2 pi (radius) first try to solve for (radius) could you do that? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you please help? (:

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

36 pi = 2 pi (radius) divide both sides by (2pi)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my teacher wants pi in the answer

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, we are going to solve for the radius first, that does not have pi then plug it into the area formula which will give you an answer that has pi :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 5.73 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

not quite :) remember, there is a pi attached to the 36 as well and so pi divided by pi = 1 so it cancels out and you get 36 divided by 2 = (radius)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18 ?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

correct :) then the formula for the Area of a circle = pi * (radius)^2 plug in radius = 18 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

324(pi)cm^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because my teacher doesn't want pi in our answer

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

that is correct! :) Good Job! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!
