they are forces of attraction unlike charge that can attract and repel
the strength of their force changes with the square of distance
 
(note I didnt say increases or decreases force, because I think if you pull atoms apart, the strong force gets stronger until it destroys the nucleus, while gravity gets weaker with distance)
