OpenStudy (koikkara):

Sometimes I wonder, 1)Using of other nation languages in chat is Good ? 2) Suggesting to Close a Question, to the satisfied asker is a mistake ? 3) Many Students complain, Green (light and dark) names are rude, who are responsible for those ? 4) Are datings, sexual talkies, Social site links, etc appreciated in Chat ? 5) Where can I find Latex Help ? ( for me and other users) 6) Who is responsible to Welcome new friends in chat ? 7) What happens if chat is taken to a interesting topic by a mod, (as ambys already lost there respect since they too started posting links for tiwwida etc)

Parth (parthkohli):

1. Allowed. 2. It is your choice. Definitely not against any OS rules. If the asker agrees with your suggestion, they will close the question. In case there of absence of any productive discussion going on, you may ask them to close a question. Oh, and don't forget to be nice when you do so. 3. Personal opinion: do not take them too seriously if you think you've been honest to yourself and the other person. Sometimes, if the students are hunting only for direct answers, and they aren't able to get them from you, they will tend to attack you personally so as to make you defend yourselves and make you give the answer out to them. 4. This website is not for dating. Sexual topics are against the Code of Conduct. Social networking links are allowed, but it's not suggested to publicize yourself repeatedly openly. 5. You can find tutorials in the LaTeX Practicing group. I personally loved AccessDenied's tutorial. 6. Everyone, as a user, has a certain responsibility to make relatively newer users feel homely! Oh, and the same applies to respecting experienced users as well. If you think that it's too much to ask for - it's not. For making them feel homely, you do not need to talk to them all the time. Just drop by a "hello" message and do not be rude to them. Don't bully them, ever. Be nice, be respectful. 7. Again, a feeling of mine is that people are allowed to discuss anything in chat as long as it is not too hurtful to anyone. This includes moderators. If you see any users hurting others' feelings, write a report. Be sure to mention your reason(s) for reports, since it is sometimes hard for moderators to make out the whole context.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Thankyou so much for ur concern @ParthKohli ! It must be helpful to all of us \(\color{green}{\huge\ddot\smile}\)

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@ParthKohli @Abhisar 8) Being an OS beginner How can I help and motivate others ? 9) What can i do when i get no response even though i tagged many ? 10) Where can i get advice privately (private reasons cannot be mentioned in public) and Which person in OS is a helper for that kind ? 11) How should i introduce to people in chat, when OS says no personals allowed ? 12) How to manage unwanted messages in my inbox? _________________________________________________________________________ [NOTE: These are few questions asked by different users ! ]

Parth (parthkohli):

8. You would help and motivate others just like anyone else would. Always be nice for one. I think you know the answer to this one, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to put it in words. 9. Stay patient. Also, it's not necessary that people would receive your tags. They may have set their notification settings that way. 10. Advice for OpenStudy? Moderators and ambassadors are the best in that case. If you're talking about advice related to your career and academics, you can privately message members who you think should be able to help you. 11. I don't get this question. OS never says that. It only says that you aren't advised to get intimately close to people. 12. Set your notification settings such that you only receive messages from people you have fanned or you can even disable messages.

mathslover (mathslover):

@Koikkara - Very nice and suitable questions. @ParthKohli - Awesome work! Very nicely answered. This is going to be useful for all! Koikkara, don't close it - just a request!

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@mathslover More questions from users to come up here...So it will be just open as "All Queries in one Box "...LOL

mathslover (mathslover):

Fine.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

1)Using of other nation languages in chat is Good ? I have use Japanese and Spanish at times. I don't see it as a real issue, but it is best if there are people that can tell if the other language is being used to be vulgar so that can still be regulated. 2) Suggesting to Close a Question, to the satisfied asker is a mistake ? It is a bit impersonal, which can come off as affronting to the user. 3) Many Students complain, Green (light and dark) names are rude, who are responsible for those ? Color has nothing to do with how a person is. Also, what is rude? Is it rude to not reply to random requests, or is it rude to send people a bunch of messages asking for help? 4) Are datings, sexual talkies, Social site links, etc appreciated in Chat ? No. Light flirting is the limit. Anything more is going over the line. The links became a big problem very quick so we delete them when we see them. 5) Where can I find Latex Help ? ( for me and other users) Depends on what you want to use it for. I have written on \(\LaTeX\) in general, which includes the use for denouements and all the stuff before web abuse if it. Other have done other things. There is a lot of help in the \(\LaTeX\) Practicing topic. 6) Who is responsible to Welcome new friends in chat ? Chat does not really have any welcome responsibility. Ambassadors are supposed to help new users as they see them, but that does not include chat. That is because there is no way to tag someone to chat. Now, if they do happen to see a new user doing things in chat like posting entire questions, an Ambassador is also supposed to help the person with how to use the site properly and explain how the question areas and chat work. 7) What happens if chat is taken to a interesting topic by a mod, (as ambys already lost there respect since they too started posting links for tiwwida etc) Define interesting. Also, abuses by moderators are to be brought up with Admins. Use the contact link on the web site for that. 8) Being an OS beginner How can I help and motivate others ? Work with them. Communicate as you tutor. 9) What can i do when i get no response even though i tagged many ? People get busy. There is no easy solution. While answering this I have gotten about 20 notifications. I am still writing this... Things like that can make people skip tags. There is no solution as things on the site are voluntary. If people were paid to help, well, then it would be different. 10) Where can i get advice privately (private reasons cannot be mentioned in public) and Which person in OS is a helper for that kind ? It depends on what you need the privacy for. There are many issues that OS is simply not a platform for. If it is a question or comment about OS that you do not want others to see, send it to the contact email. I have sent in a small book's worth of comments to the contact email. I am not joking. If Preetha printed all my emails I think she would have about 150 pages by now. 11) How should i introduce to people in chat, when OS says no personals allowed ? If you want to use your name, you may. There is also a spot for names on the profile page. However, if someone does not use a name on their profile or tell you to use their name, you should not. Just use their user name or some shorter form of it. 12) How to manage unwanted messages in my inbox? Depends on why they are unwanted and how much control you need. You can use the settings to change who can message you, what messages OS sends your email address, and things like that. You can block and report people too.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

\(Continued....\) 13) Sir, I found only feedback option, Unlike other free study sites its really great. I would like to give a testimonial to this site. So, where Should I post it ? 14) Sir, I clicked "Best response" button for another user, instead of giving it to the person who helped me. Is there any option to cancel it or to provide it to the person who helped ? 15) Sir my Name is "XXXX", I'm New here. Someone gave the person who helped me a medal. (i) How can I know Who gave her that medal ? (ii) Is it necessary to give medal by me for that person, who already got medal from someone ? 16) Hai, I'm from India, in chat (mathematics) people from US, is passing comments in Spanish as they told me they speak spanish. It looks like they are making fun of me. So can you please ask them to speak in English, Its Irritating me. How I can Deal with this? **Thanks Koi. 17) Hello, i am doing Nursing from "XXXXX University". Since OS got no Section for Doubts regarding Ayurveda and other Nursing terms, Where should I ask them. I tried it in OS Health Section, But Couldn't get reply when needed. Can you help us by giving a suggestion to OS, Thank you ! ------------------------------------------------------------------ \(Yet~waiting~for~more~with~my~\Inbox/~open,~for~Friendly~Opinions.....\)

mathslover (mathslover):

13) If you have a testimonial for the site, post it on the OpenStudy Feedback group. You can also post your view regarding OpenStudy on its FB and twitter pages : FB : https://www.facebook.com/openstudy Twitter : https://twitter.com/openstudy 14) You can always undo the "best response" given. You can click on "Undo" which is visible against the username of the person who got the best response from you. After that, you can give the "Best Response" to the one who helped you. (PFA) 15) i) If you want to know who gave the medal to that specific user (let the username of the user be AB) , then simply go to the AB's profile, then to the "Medals Received". There the usernames are mentioned who gave medals to AB. If the user AB got more than 2 medals for a post, then only 2 usernames (the recent ones) will be mentioned there.. while the third username will not be mentioned. So, this doesn't work always. (PFA) ii) No, its not necessary. It totally depends on you whether you want to give a medal or not. Though, you are not allowed to participate in *medal parties* or give out medals to those who don't deserve to get one. But, if you don't wish to give medals to a user, then its okay! After all, it is completely your choice. 16) If you think that someone is making fun of you in chats, then you may request the users chatting there to chat in English, but as the code-of-conduct doesn't state anything against such users, so, officially, we can not do anything unless and until, they are abusing or offending you. If you think the situation gets out of control, then PM an active ambassador, and he/she will try to sort things out. 17) OS Health Section is made for such questions related to Ayurveda etc. But, I agree that this group is inactive, and we're working on this issue. Though, if you think that there is a need for another section, then you may post your feedback (with reason) in the OS Feedback Group. I hope this answers your queries. Good Luck! :-)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

what is meant by a medal party ? @mathslover @thomaster

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Compassionate

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Medals parties are when a group of friends, or any other group of persons purposefully get together with the intent to boost, increase, or improve any rank, SmartScore, title or SmartCents through illegally giving each other medals. A. *Creates Post* B. *Users Post* C. *Users give each other medals* This is known as artificially creating stats. It is not accepted. Inguinal offenses may be overlooked.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Inguinal ??

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Ah, inaugural, not inguinal. This isn't biology.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

That's why i was worried...!!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Anyways thnx for ur response \(\color{green}{\huge\ddot\smile}\)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

*just to clear things-worried because u said inguinal and not because i participate in medal parties :)

OpenStudy (compassionate):

That's good. Medal parties for someone of your status would be met with a swift banhammer to the jugular.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

LOL..!! That's Scary :D

OpenStudy (koikkara):

\(~Continued....\) 18. Is there Option to upload videos, which could be more helpful to share Knowldge, and clarify various doubts, like movement of rotor etc. ? 19 In design, when I post sketch, Ambies and Sir, Yourself asks not to post sketch in Design. Then Where can i post and Share my designs with OS Users, to know how good I am at that topic ? 20. Sir, I am doing Bio-Medical Engineering and I feel hard to find Engineers like me in OS, In case of share and study... Is there any suitable options other than just "ask and reply" option ? 21. Sir, Is it possible to have An Icon or something like the one used for Ambies, to identify, engineers/teachers/medical tutors ? .............................................................................................................................

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@mathslover \(Nice~Picture~!!\)

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

18) there is no current method of uploading videos to OpenStudy. It has been suggested before, but it is not necessary and could be easily abused, even now people abuse the drawing tool... if it was going to be added, it will be in the far future after they fix the servers and stuff 19) You \(can\) post \(your~original\) sketches in the Design group for criticism and feedback, it was just the sketch toy problem with the possibility of plagiarism problems I think... 20) I not sure how to help with that sorry, I suppose you could PM around too see if anyone shares that topic...? 21) We now have the addition of Titles for those in specialized topics :) but for more personalized identification Titles, one can purchase the OS Subscription for only $10 a month and get personalized Titles and no ads ^_^

OpenStudy (abhisar):

22. Is putting headers like "MEDAL" & "FAN" against the COC ? 23. Is posting more than one question in a single thread against the COC ? 24. If yes, should report abuse button be used for notifying it ? @mathslover

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Compassionate

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Callisto @ParthKohli

Parth (parthkohli):

These are widely debated topics. Personally, even though the CoC doesn't mention this directly, I believe that there should not be any medal-baiting. You can report to the moderators if you'd like to: it is completely your choice. For the second one, it's not wrong to post more than one question in a thread. One is free to do as many as they'd like to. BUT if you think that the original poster is only hunting for answers, you should report it to the moderators. Do remember that CoC is not a holy document that mentions each right and wrong. It's one that sums up the entire website and its goals. Do not expect the CoC to be the most reliable source out there. They're minimum requirements which are considered wrong by almost everyone.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Can u pls chk this. Pls tell me if i've done something wrong. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53a58b38e4b0ffdda15e041b

Parth (parthkohli):

It looks like the poster is hunting for answers, which is wrong. They also seem to be copying and pasting their problems from an external source without actually working with them, which is definitely against the Code of Conduct. So I'd say that you aren't wrong.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yes...i have seen the user doing the same now for atleast 3 days in a row. Each day i warn him but he refuses to listen everytime. His interaction level is 0 ! Never responds to questions like "what do you think should be the answr ?"

OpenStudy (abhisar):

for instance see his next question http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53a592c0e4b0ffdda15e0434

Parth (parthkohli):

OK, yes - feel free to report instances such as this one. Amistre has been handling these kind of situations for the past few weeks.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Ohkay..if uh don mind.Pls solve one more mystery....COC says giving direct answers is wrong...should it be reported too ?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes.

Parth (parthkohli):

Everything against the Code of Conduct should be reported.

Parth (parthkohli):

But it's not necessary that something that's not in the Code of Conduct must not be reported.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I see... Thank you Very Much for helping me understand the codes better !

OpenStudy (koikkara):

\(\color{red}{~Questions~Continued....}\) 25. Sir, I'm a girl, I have a complain with a user, who used to flirt more than helping in answers posting stories and useless pictures, the name of the User is "XXXXX". Also, because of Him, I really got messed up ! So, how Can I deal with such situations ? Thanks a lot. Thanks for being friendly and supporting. 7 days ago Block Report Abuse 26. Koi my name is "XXXXX", I have 300 Smartcents, I would like to unlock "Super Librarian", So is it possible for you to provide me the list, to unlock trophies along with its corresponding subjects ? Thanks a lot Man. 27. Heard from users that you can help me out. Koi I have trouble with some new accounts, these people used to ask about ********* and other dirty talks. I blocked them but next day again they come up with new accounts. They started commenting on my post too about dating and ***** stuffs. I feel bad a lot, can You help me...? Your suggestions really help but can u ask mods to solve this issue. Sorry koikkara for saying bad stuffs to you, hope u don't mind it. Thank you ! 28. Hello, koi, my name is "XXXXX", I know your eyes watch chats, I came with new account because i got suspended yesterday, Please don't report to Mods, and my suspension ends by today till, then shall i use this chat ? [Got this when I was offline] @ParthKohli @Compassionate @e.mccormick @Callisto @Abhisar @Preetha \(\color{red}{~................~Waiting~For~More...............................}\)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

25.I'll suggest for such situations it would be best to report abuse the message/post so that mods can become aware of this. Also they can block anyone whom they don't want to communicate. The block and report abuse button is below the message

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@Abhisar Unfortunately when the students get angry or start a fight they don't think about report, they just think how to stop the other guy....lol and also, they report everyone after blocking each other. the main part is when they post their opinions they don't post what they said to them ( the other user)...LOl

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@ParthKohli Lol, why sit as audience ?

OpenStudy (igreen):

I wanna know: Why is it when you enter any question in any topic you automatically "study" that topic? It's annoying..

Parth (parthkohli):

If you want to leave "studying" a topic, you can do that. Just click on "Find More Subjects" and click on the red "Stop Studying." http://prntscr.com/3wbme8

OpenStudy (igreen):

I know that, but it's annoying to do that every single time. Or you can point to the subject your studying(right below "Find More Subjects", and click the 'x'.

OpenStudy (igreen):

And how about this? I made a new account, because I hated my other one's username(greenlegodude57), My old account has a rank 73, is there anyway you can change usernames or get your rank to your other account's rank?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Can you understand that? xD

OpenStudy (igreen):

I have proof of my 'greenlegodude57' account, I can give you it's e-mail and password.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Anyone? @hartnn

hartnn (hartnn):

no, there is no way of doing that, of transferring SS or changing usernames.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Koikkara @sleepyhead314 We can upload videos by attaching them like this
