why did slavery continue after the revolution

Slavery wasn't what the Patriots were fighting for, it was independence from Great Britain. Besides, with the majority of citizens' food grown at home, slaves were needed to work at the plantations. Slavery didn't really have anything to do with the Revolutionary War.
