a string is stretched by two equal and opposite forces 10N each. What will be tension in string

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Net force equals Zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tension adds up, i think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10N

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let us apply the Newton's third law. The force pulling it outward is 10N from both the sides. But because it's not accelerating the net force is zero, so the force from the other parts of the string pulling the piece inward must be 10N too. But this internal force in the string is what we call tension. So the tension will be 10N .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Net force will be zero..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There will be 20N tension in the string.
