Ancient Rome's slaves were not treated differently compared to the slavery in the southern US in the 1800s. There were many types of slaves. Greek slaves are known to have been teachers. Slaves that were not so nicely treated were those who were trained in gladiatorial schools and forced to fight to the death e.g (Spartacus).
