Evaluate for f(-2). Show your work. f(x) = -5x + 4 I don't want to know the answer I just want to know how to do it. Anyone help?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Gotta learn that function notation!! :) \[\Large\rm f(\color{orangered}{x})=-5(\color{orangered}{x})+4\]See how I colored the x's the same color? They change at the same time. So if we want to evaluate this function at x=-2,\[\Large\rm f(\color{orangered}{-2})=-5(\color{orangered}{-2})+4\]We replace all of our x's with -2. They both change at the same time.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Do you understand how to simplify down the right side?

Alright, I understand. Thanks!
