PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS QUESTION!!! I'll fan & Medal!! Catherine paid $135.68 for an MP3 player. If the price paid includes a 6% sales tax, which of the following equations can be used to determine the price of the MP3 player before tax? (Let x represent the cost of the MP3 player and y represent the total cost after tax.) y = x + 6x y = 1.6x y = 0.94x y = 1.06x

The answer is y=1.06x. This is because in order to find the tax that is added to an item one must use (1+%) with the percentage being the tax. If you were to multiply by .06 alone, you would get a smaller number. The 1 is put in there to secure the original amount and the percent is then added to it.
