Nadia has a box of quarters and dimes on her dresser. There are 5 times as many quarters as dimes in the box. The total number of quarters and dimes is 96. How many of each coin is in the box? A. 16 dimes and 80 quarters <--- B. 20 dimes and 76 quarters C. 24 dimes and 72 quarters D. 28 dimes and 68 quarters
@Hero 16x5=80
@Hero
Say q is the number of quarters and d is the number of dimes. We know from the question that 5d = q. We also know that q + d = 96. Using these two equations, we can find q and d. From the first equation, we know q = 5d. Sub that into the second equation: 5d + d = 96. Solving the equation, we get d = 16. Now you can just plug that number into either of the original equations to find that q = 80. The answer is A!
@matt101 You could have just told me I was right.....lol! :)
