After the 13th amendment was issued, the slave owners had their farming business fail because many the hundred of slaves that work in the plantation in southern states are no longer there. Though, some did remain working in the farms with getting paid back. I'd say they southerners had tough time handling their farms alone, slaves were forced mainly for farming in southerners farms.
