You live in Carson City, Nevada, which has approximate (latitude, longitude) coordinates of (39N, 120W). Your friend lives in Ottawa, Ohio, with coordinates of (41N, 84W). You plan to meet halfway between the two cities. Find the coordinates of the halfway point. 39N, 120W 41N, 84W (39+41/2 N , 120+84/2 W) (80/2 N , 204/2 W) (40 N, 104 W)

Check my answer!:) @paki

OpenStudy (paki):

hmm... here will find the average of the "north values" and "west values"... that will be the required... so your answer is correct... and one error is over there.... 80/2=40N... but 204/2= 102W... it's not 104W.... ok... @YanaSidlinskiy

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Thanx:) You're the best!:) My brain was just not working that day:D

OpenStudy (paki):

it's ok... pleasure sista...

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

:)

OpenStudy (paki):

:D

@YanaSidlinskiy There is nothing wrong with the answer you have chosen. I am adding a side note because you have worked with more advanced topics before. Distance between different longitudes and latitudes cannot be accurately calculated by the average of the values, as suggested by the given answers. The greater the difference, the greater is the error. In this example, the error is only about 22 km out of 3053 km. You can read more about it by googling spherical geometry, or the Haversine formula.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

@mathmate Thank you soo much!!:) Even your side notes help!:) Makes sense:)
