Ramses II was an Egyptian Pharaoh during the New Kingdom. He ruled from 1279 BC to 1213 BC. Achievements: Expanded Egypt's borders. Re-established Egypt as a major power in the Middle East. He built many cities,temples and monuments.The most impressive were the temple at Abu Simbel (carved out of the mountainside), and an 11m tall granite statue of himself, now in Ramses Square, Cairo. Ramses lived into his 90s, and is known as Ramses The Great. The movie 'The Ten Commandments' has Yul Bryner playing the role of Ramses II, who is believed to have been the Pharaoh when Moses led the Jewish Exodus out of Egypt.
