what does the White Witch do to prevent the prophecy of Narnia from coming true?

She doesn't actually succeed in preventing the prophecy from coming true. She tries to get Edmund to lure his brother and sisters to her castle. When that fails and Edmund shows up alone, she takes him by sleigh towards the stone table (sending her wolves to try to kill the other children first). She then tries to kill Edmund. And after Edmund is rescued, she demands retribution. None of this works, though, and she is defeated. The prophecy comes true.
