Every year the state department of education gathers statistical information from all schools to award a letter grade showing the school’s academic performance. Each school is given a rating based on the median of the grades. A school principal used a bar graph to send his report. He assigned the horizontal axis to the student’s name and the vertical axis to the grades. Why was this a mistake?

Hint: |dw:1402696928327:dw| Can you see the mistake now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really get why it's a mistake like that

OpenStudy (opcode):

A school principal used a bar graph to send his report. He assigned the horizontal axis to the student’s name and the vertical axis to the grades. If the x-axis (the horizontal axis) is the students name and the y-axis (the vertical axis) are the grades. There has to be multiple bar-graphs per student. Otherwise the data would be incomplete.

Okay I understand now, thanks

OpenStudy (opcode):

You cannot fit all of student's grades on one bar graph with a bunch of other students. It would be better if there was a circle (pie) graph. They could get the mean faster for example plus fit all the data: |dw:1402697651948:dw|

You are welcome. Glad you understand. :-)
