I was wondering would you be so kind to check a geometry explanation for me? Here is the other question: A trapezoid is drawn on a grid with vertices at P (-5, 7), Q (-2, 7), R (2, 3), and S (-8, 3). Trapezoid UVWX will be drawn similar to Trapezoid PQRS with side WX corresponding to side RS. The point (8, -4) will be the location of vertex W and point (-12, -4) will be the location of point X. What will be the coordinates of vertex V? Show all your work or explain your reasoning. @Jim766

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will send you my reasoning via message :/

OpenStudy (jim766):

The reasoning is good. How did you figured out the points for U and V?

OpenStudy (jim766):

ok give me a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^Alrighty, thank you in advance!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jim766 ?.?

OpenStudy (jim766):

sorry i am getting no where you are right the base is twice as big as the original base, so all the side lengths have to be doubled. but I cant figure out how to get the other two points. I know they have to be on a line parallell to the base. and the top has to be a length of 6, because the original was 3.

OpenStudy (jim766):

sorry, cant figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jim766

OpenStudy (jim766):

going back to that other one. here are the points that I get. U(-6,4) V(0,4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You didn't get U (-6,-4) and V (4,0) ....? O.o

OpenStudy (jim766):

Since UV make up the top of the trap, the have to parallel to the bottom. The bottom has a slope of zero, so will the top.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANKS! On the UV part, so the correct coordinates are the ones you just gave me U (-6,4) V(0,4) , not U (-6,-4) and V (4,0) that I had in my explanation?

OpenStudy (jim766):

yes....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.Yes to which one? O.o

OpenStudy (jim766):

U(-6,4) V (0,4 )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! Are you sure that's correct? :/ You understand how to get that answer and everything, I know previously you told me it was confusing and that you weren't able to ..

OpenStudy (jim766):

I am not positive, but pretty sure... The new top has a length of 6, ( the original had a length of 3) The slope of the right side of the new one is 4/3, the same as the original right side. The right side length is 10, where the original was 5. I bet there is a easier way to do it that what I did, but I think it is right. Don't be made if it is wrong...though,...its the best I got. lol

OpenStudy (jim766):

made = mad

OpenStudy (jim766):

right...makes sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! Thank you sooooo much! I hugely appreciate all your help!!!! :D Have a great night.

OpenStudy (jim766):
