Can someone guide me through this? Don't give me answer and make sure I understand it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would like to do process of elimination, I always find that easier. Which of the following relations is NOT a function? A. {(1, 1), (2, 4), (3, 6), (4, 8)} B. {(−5, 25), (5, 25), (−6, 36), (6, 36)} C. {(4, −4), (3, −3), (3, 3), (4, 4)} D. {(3, 12), (5, 20), (7, 28), (8, 32)}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the 1 that doesnt repeat in the x axes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then your work is done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B and C are out, right? @burgerkingftw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no b aint out

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I meant A. :)

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Nope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No? (1, 1) That repeats...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! I see never mind, you were talking about just the x axis not the y axis. :)

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

No, it doesn't work like that. Can you justify why you canceled those options out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u have to find out which 1 is not a function

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

.-.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on! Let me see if I can figure this out...

OpenStudy (jim766):

In a function the x's will not repeat., In this case you are looking for relations where the x's do repeat. That will not be a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is C, because they have (3,-3) and (3,3). Am I right?

OpenStudy (jim766):

right. good job

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! Thanks I get it! I might have one more type of question that has functions later. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you give me a similar one to make sure that I know it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Never mind. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx again fo the medal and did i help
