My point is that measurements of physical quantities such as temperature, weight, height, and so on, do not change suddenly. We characterize these functions as being continuous. If you've ridden in a taxi, you'll probably remember that the meter does not constantly change; on the other hand, it jumps every tenth of a mile or so. That's an example of discontinuous behavior.
