Company ABC produces widgets. They have found that the cost, c (x), of making x widgets is a quadratic function in terms of x. The company also discovered that it costs $23 to produce 2 widgets, $55 to produce 4 widgets, and $247 to produce 10 widgets. What is the total cost of producing 8 widgets?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

to solve this problem, you'll need to come up with the actual quadratic formula for the cost of making x widgets. You could start with y=ax^2 + bx + c. In the first case, x=2 and y=23; in the second, x=4 and y=55, and in the third, x=10 and y=247. This means you have three equations in three unknowns, which is enough info to enable you to find the values of a, b and c.
