Solve for F1 and F2.
Info looks incomplete
Those are the given.
The question is not clear. It looks like the situation in the image is not physically consistent !
It asks for how much force it needs in order to balance it with the person who is exerting 500N. The
F1 and F2 are reactions pointing upward. The forces due to CG and weight of the person are acting downward. This will form a torque and there will be no static equilibrium.
yeah exactly!! :) @ShailKumar is right!
Do the ^'s indicate pivot points? Even so, the distance from pivot to center of mass or to person is not given, so torque remains unknown.
It can be varying.ie,f1+f2=500 f1 and f2 can take any value satisfying this equation
I see. I'm still not sure, because torques must total to zero, not forces. If the center of mass of the stick is the pivot point, then the forces can be any values such that their torques about the pivot point add up to the torque due to the person. In this case, where the center of mass is also the pivot point, I consider the forces to be able to be either up or down (positive or negative). This is very vague still, I think. I could analyze a couple more scenarios based on the meanings of the symbols in the picture. But that'd take a while to do something that might be irrelevant.
