How does a person inherit PKU?
Hello @Theaprilramos ! \(\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\Huge{\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\color{orange}{\bigstar}\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\color{orange}{\bigstar}\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}}\\\color{white}{.}\\\Huge\color{blue}{\mathfrak{~~~~Welcome~to~OpenStudy!~\ddot\smile}}\\\color{white}{.}\\\\\Huge{\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\color{orange}{\bigstar}\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\color{orange}{\bigstar}\color{red}{\bigstar}\color{blue}{\bigstar}\color{green}{\bigstar}\color{yellow}{\bigstar}}}}}\)
Thanks (:
Phenylketonuria is an autosomal recessive disease. It is a rare genetic disorder of phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolism in which the enzyme homogentisic acid oxidase is altered due to mutation and thus leading to the accumulation of homogentisic acid and its oxide, called alkapton in the blood which are excreted in urine in large amounts. Due to this reason the urine turns black when exposed to air.
So basically it is genetically inherited
Thank you !!!!!!!!! I'm having my final tomorrow so i needed help on some of the questions on my study guide aha
u understand the meaning of autosomal recessive disease ?
It means that the gene associated to PKU is located at autosomes and its recessive
\(\Huge\text{Anytime !}\) \(\huge\ddot\smile\)
so if a child were to inherit the disease she/he would have inherited 1 mutated allele from both parents r?
yes then only he/she have the disease. If inherit only one r then he/she will be carrier
ahhh ok thanks cx!
If u have more doubts, post them and feel free to tag me in \(\color{green}{\huge\ddot\smile}\)
