The Determination and Ambition to Reach Success
College is a few years away from our hands, and time is passing rapidly. Steps have to be climbed one by one in order to reach success. Taking steps to be ready for college includes the Advanced Placement classes which are being presented. These AP classes manifest the fact that you are serious about college and preparations are being taken when they are presented, participating in these vigorous AP classes such as AP calculus AB, AP Environmental Science, AP History, and AP English Language and Composition, expresses motivation and ambition that are instilled within you. An analysis of the article “Spreading the A, P. Gospel to Nurture Scientists and Engineers”, expresses the sentiments that motivate me to contribute to an A.P. culture here at The Young Women Leadership School of Queens.
Children along with their parents often misunderstand, or do not understand the opportunities that are being showcased. Children in El Paso, a city that lies in the state of Texas, never get the advantage of participating in A.P. classes let alone the fact that they never understood what that meant. They were oblivious. In the article “Spreading the A,P. Gospel to Nurture Scientists and Engineers" , it states "El Paso, a city with high poverty and a large Spanish speaking population, “a lot of the kids didn't even know what advanced placement was” said Mary Ann Clark, director of advanced academic services for the school district. "They thought it was only for kids who were gifted.” This viewpoint motivated me to contribute to an A.P. culture here at TYWLS of Queens because many people do not have the luxury to afford gifted programs. In the United States, there are many opportunities that one can strive for but many do not have the drive. I will be considered one of the lucky few if I can get an opportunity to partake in an A.P. program. If I engage in this A.P. program it will prepare me for colleges. Not only that, it also impress college admission counselors, it develops college level academic skills, in addition participating in the A.P. classes also allows you to choose your major sooner. Therefore, this sentiment leads me to have a hand in the A.P. classes involved here at TYWLS of Queens.
It takes determination, commitment, dedication, perseverance and tolerance to achieve something extraordinary. It may be a rough journey with many twists and turns, ups, and downs but we have to fight through it, hence the meaning of tolerance. Thus, it takes a sturdy person in order to attain their goal. Maure Fritzley an 18 year old senior at Brashear High School is taking the challenge by joining in the A.P. classes that are provided to her and her goal is to a Physicist. It states “She decided she want to drop it, then changed her mind and stayed and she struggled a lot.” This feeling influenced my thoughts of contributing the A.P. culture here at TYWLS of Queens. A.P class is hard and it takes time and effort. Seeing that she has despaired in this course but yet she didn’t quit gave me an extra push. I can use this type of courage as a motivation every time I struggle.
The world is there with many helping hands. Whether it is your parents or your teachers, help is on the way anytime and anyway. Many of us out there are willing to lend a helping hand. The article states “Deploying a combination of teacher training, student study session and encouragement that includes cash incentives, it has worked with 560 high schools in 22 states since 2008, and the results have been impressive.” So many teachers out there who are willing to help student develop a better understanding of college level courses. The results they are achieving are what they have been striving for through their high school career. This speaks to me and says I should be in A.P. classes because there is always going to be a paragon who will assist me to get the high results that these students in these 560 schools and I both wanted. Thus, you can achieve your goal with some assistance on the way.
As can be seen by the preceding information, there are many thoughts that run through the mind about the contribution to the A.P. classes here at TYWLS of Queens. This article has galvanized me. After reading this article, I came to the fact that there may be obstacles in the way but you shouldn’t give up easily, it can affect you in the long run. Many people don’t have the opportunities that we are given. We should take advantage of the offer and move on in life which can be beneficial for us. Lastly, it can be concluded that with assistance from others we can complete our goal. A.P. classes are important and they can be propitious.
