What is the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

geerky42 (geerky42):

inscribed angle theorem: angle of inscribed angle is half the central angle or arc

|dw:1402861652266:dw|

geerky42 (geerky42):

So according to that theorem, we have \(\dfrac{1}{2}(6x-8) = 10x+10\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this correct?

geerky42 (geerky42):

on LHS of first line, it supposed to be 1/2, not 2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ltp1212 has the correct steps and answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can either do 2*(6x-8) = 10x + 10 or (1/2)*(10x+10) = 6x - 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@geerky42 no

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

2*(angle GFE) = (arc GE) or (1/2)*(arc GE) = (angle GFE)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i do 1/2(6x-8)=10x+10 i get x=-2

geerky42 (geerky42):

oh that's me then. sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

np and no worries

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@geerky42 thanks anyways
