What would most likely happen to the chipmunk population in 2014 if the population went up to 22 million in 2013?
The chipmunk population would continue to increase. The carrying capacity would increase. The chipmunk population would crash. The death rate would decrease.
@annalieseBronz Probably a small crash. The population is at the carry capacity which is why it is relatively stable. Notice how when it goes up past 18 if drops below 16 for the first time since reaching 16 million.
@AnnalieseBronz So does it crash ? Since the habitats of these poor animals are being severely affected by afforestation and degradation during this period, it gonna have a crash and its death rate would increase.
@koikkara That is an assumption without any basis. The increased death rate and population crash could be due to a delayed effect of increased predator abundance, an increase in disease, a lack of suitable habitat, or any combination of those factors. Many crashes are due to diseases, the increased pop means increased interactions. And there are many examples of a predator population becoming more abundant resulting in a higher death rate for the prey.
@mrdoldum Possible, no Objection at all !!
