How do I do this? Penny’s function has an output that is four more than three times the input. John’s function expressed in slope-intercept form is y = 3.5x – 4. Which of the following is true? A. As the input increases, John’s function is increasing and Penny’s function is decreasing. B. As the input increases, John’s function is decreasing and Penny’s function is increasing. C. John’s function has a greater rate of change, because 3.5 > 3. D. Penny’s function has a greater rate of change, because 4 > 3.5.

i got my answer you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IDK How to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Penny’s function has an output that is four more than three times the input. \[f(x)=3x+4\] might be a good representation of that function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or if you prefer \[y=3x+4\] a line with slope \(3\) and \(y\) intercept \(4\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

compare with \[ y = 3.5x – 4\] a line with slope \(3.5\) hmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D or C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D Penny’s function has a greater rate of change, because 4 > 3.5. is the slope of \(3x+4\) equal to \(3\) ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess i mean the slope of \(y=3x+4\) IS equal to 3, not 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so D cannot be correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore go with C the other two are just silly

I see. :) Thanks! I might have a couple of more I need explained. :)
