Sam is determining the area of a triangle. In this triangle, the value for the height is a terminating decimal, and the value for the base is a repeating decimal. What can be concluded about the area of this triangle?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

The area of a triangle is: \[\large{\triangle = \cfrac{1}{2}bh}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i know that im trying to see if it is rational or not.

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Now, since, a repeating decimal (for example 1/9 , 1/99, etc.) and a terminating decimal is always a rational number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Also, the product of 2 rational numbers is always rational. Thus, the area of the triangle would be raitonal. :)

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

*rational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :D

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

np :)
