Which of the following is an example of a heterogeneous mixture? Water Salt Water Dirt Brass

OpenStudy (anonymous):

saltwater

OpenStudy (hugsnotughs):

I think you would get a faster answer if you posted this in Chemistry. :) A heterogeneous mixture is one that consists of two or more substances. It is non-uniform and the different components of the mixture can be seen. Heterogeneous mixtures can be further subdivided according to whether it is two liquids mixed, a solid and a liquid or a liquid and a gas or even a gas and a solid. So it can't be water...that's not a mixture. It can't be salt and water, the salt dissolves, it can be soil, because you can see the different substances, and I don't think brass is mixed. So I would say soil.

thanks both of u :)

OpenStudy (hugsnotughs):

@arielalexis , I think you re getting confused with Homogeneous. :)

OpenStudy (hugsnotughs):

I gave her one. :P

OpenStudy (hugsnotughs):

I said I believed it was soil, since that is a heterogeneous mixture where you can see all the substances of the mixture.
