OpenStudy (scarlettred):

Find the perimeter of the triangle below. Round your solution to 2 decimal points. Can someone help me?

OpenStudy (scarlettred):

Here's the picture

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The perimeter is the sum of the lengths. Can you find the length of side BC?

OpenStudy (scarlettred):

not really I'm super confused on what to do

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Segment BC is a horizontal segment parallel to the x-axis. Its length is found by simply counting the number of units from point B to point C.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

How many units is it from B to C? |dw:1402942204565:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BC is horizontal so you can just subtract the X's from each point. 3-(-3)=BC. Since AB is vertical, you can subtract the Y's. 6-2=AB. To find AC you need to use the distance formula.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I just counted the units from left to right. There are 6 units, so the distance from B to C is 6. That means side BC is 6 units long. |dw:1402942442966:dw|

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Now can you count how many units are on segment AB to find the length of side AB? |dw:1402942535074:dw|

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Once again, counting the units, this time going up, we get 4 units. Side AB is 4 units long. |dw:1402943037088:dw|
