A consultant needs to make at least $800 this week. She earns $80 for each new written piece and $40 for each review. Which of the following inequalities represents the possible combinations of reviews and new written pieces that she must complete? a. 80x+40y>=800 b. 80x+40y>800 c. 80x+40y<=800 d. 80x+40y<800
THANK YOU
If she needs to make AT LEAST 800, the sign you are going to use is (blah blah) is greater than or equal to 800. That is the first thing you need to decide. If we are going to be considering her two different services, we will need two variables. X and y. If she makes $80 per written piece, this is translated in math-speak as 80x, calling x our number of written pieces. If she makes $40 per review, this translates as 40y, calling y our number of reviews. Adding these together needs to be greater than or equal to the $800 she needs to earn, so our inequality is\[80x+40y \ge800\]which is choice A. Do you understand how to figure that out on your own, do you think?
