Write a simplified polynomial expression in standard form to represent the area of the rectangle below. 5x2 + 18x − 2 5x2 + 13x + 2 5x2 − 18x − 8 5x2 + 13x + 8

So you know that 5x+2 and x-4 are your side lengths and that the formula for area is A=lw so what's your first step?

OpenStudy (muzzack):

Uhm... e_e I'm a little confused. I know it's hard to ask that kind of question on here but.. (x -4)(5x + 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thank you guys!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who to give a medal to...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Muzzack isn't it c?

OpenStudy (muzzack):

hmm im not sure well i guess so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use FOIL to find the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats tht?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5x+2)(x-4) \[5x ^{2}-18x-8\]

OpenStudy (muzzack):

oh yeah i remeber

OpenStudy (muzzack):

in elementary algebra, FOIL is a mnemonic for the standard method of multiplying two binomials—hence the method may be referred to as the FOIL method.

who do I give the medal to btw lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First terms which are 5x and x Outer terms which are 5x and -4 Inner terms which are 2 and x Last terms which are 2 and -4 Add the products of each of the FOIL to get the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok I think I got it lol

Thank You Guys!
