what happens on three kings day

El Dia de Los Tres Reyes Magos? I think the tradition depends on what part of the Spanish speaking community you are, my family (northern Mexican) tells the children to leave a shoe outside the door overnight and supposedly the Kings come during the night and leave a gift (and they also teach them that Santa Clause comes for X-mas haha) I never believed or participated in these activities though

It's on January 6th... according to the Catholic religion isn't the birth of Jesus supposedly Dec 25, hence Christmas??
