find the meadian of the data 70 , 72, 74, 76, 77

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the middle number in the sequence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first put them in least to greatest, then find ur middle number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well u did that so its 74

OpenStudy (mathmale):

In other words, the median is 74. it's the middle number AFTER you've arranged your data in ascending order.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

While you're at it, want to find Q1 and Q3, the first and third quartiles?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yes, to find the median you must arrange the set of numbers from least to greatest, then you have to find the number that lays in the middle of that number set after you rearranged it, so it would be 74. Median - 74

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@sammixboo: Yes. Already reached that conclusion (above). But would you be a sweetie and explain how to find Q1 and Q3 (optional additional learning experience)? If so, thanks.
