What role did geography play in early civilizations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

geography played a major role in early civilizations! Some examples: A fresh river could sustain a civilization because of its water and fish. Also depending on your location it could make you an easy or very difficult place to concur. Many places made it as far as they did just because of their great location! Places like Rome for example was hard to get to, had a river, and had fertile soil, it was things like this that kept many places going.
