Parallelogram FGHI on the coordinate plane below represents the drawing of a horse trail through a local park: Quadrilateral FGHI is shown on the coordinate plane with coordinates F at 4, negative 2. G at 7, negative 2. H at 5, negative 4. I at 2, negative 4. Point A is at negative 2, 7 and point D is at negative 10, negative 1. In order to build a scale model of the trail, the drawing is enlarged on the coordinate plane. If two corners of the trail are at point A (-2, 7) and point D (-10, -1), what is another point that could represent a corner of the trail?

@Wolfboy @Kayleedid @anonymous_user Can you help? Please please pleasee?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ShailKumar Can you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First calculate the distances FI and AD. Find the scaling factor AD/FI.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distance between two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is given by \[D = \sqrt{(x1-x2)^2+ (y1-y2)^2} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What points do I use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For F1 use F and I

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*FI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you find FI and AD ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f is 4, -2 I is 2,-4 A is -2, 7 D is 10,-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct but D is -10,-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok so whats next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me do FI for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For FI, since F(4,-2) so take x1 = 4 and y1 = -2. since I(2,-4) take x2 = 2 and y2 = -4. Using the distance formula: \[FI = \sqrt{(4-2)^2 + (-2 - (-4))^2}\] \[FI = \sqrt{4+4}\] \[FI = 2\sqrt{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that good ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its awesome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now do it for AD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AD= (-2-10)^2 + (7-1)^2 Squared AD= 24+36 AD= im stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ShailKumar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AD is square root of (-2+10)^2 + (7+1)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ShailKumar do you think that you can finish explaining please?
