how do you graph piecewise functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A piecewise function is a function that has a different definition for different values of x. Like:\[f(x)=|x| (absolute-power)\] Which translates to:\[f(x)=x\]when\[x \ge0\]and\[f(x)=-x\]when\[x<0\]

Does that help? Do you have an example?
