Help with derivatives

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Is there a function somewhere Bus? :)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Is there a function or are we just pulling things out of the air?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

How in the world!

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Oh sorry. x^3.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Some reason why we are NOT to calculate the EXACT derivative? BTW - Please show you work. You have not yet done that.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Well, here is the problem. It wants me to estimate with a calc, but I don't know how. So I rather do it the regular way. Your gonna have to help me to even start.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

What does that mean estimate with a calculator? Using the graph of the function or some other approximation technique? :o

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Estimate the values of f '(0), f '1 f '(2), f '(3), and f '(4) by using a graphing device to zoom in on the graph of f. (Round your answers to one decimal place.)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You calculator will display the tangent to a point on the curve that it draws. Perhaps you can estimate the slope of that line. It's a purely visual thing. Make sure your x- and y-scales are the same. You WILL be confused, otherwise.
