Transverse waves are generally stronger than longitudinal waves. True or False ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is nothing like anyone of transverse or longitudinal waves is generally stronger than the other one. The power and the energy content of the wave depends on the source type, travelling medium etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's false ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sidsiddhartha Do you know this one ?

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

yes that depends but if u consider that every thing is same and the medium is not liquid then u can say that longitudal waves are much more faster than transverse wave and they are also more stronger too so probably false :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is false

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

generally longtudal waves are like P waves ans transverse waves are like S waves and P waves(longitudal) make more destruction so longitudal waves shouldbe stronger than transverse wave

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks to both of you :)
