.When a material is subjected to deformation , how is it possible that volume changes. As during deformation length , breadth , height may change but how come the volume of the material changes ??

There empty space around particles. During deformation force is applied, particles get closer to fill this space and thus overall effect is that the volume is reduced. Does this help ?
