A food packet is dropped from a helicopter and is modeled by the function f(x) = -16x2 + 14400. The graph below shows the height f(x), in feet, of the food packet at different times x, in seconds:

Use the graph to determine the reasonable domain of f(x) based on the context. my main confusion on "domain of f(x)" if f(x)=y and domain =x then is it asking whats the x of the y? :P

zepdrix (zepdrix):

domain is x, they're essentially asking how long the food package is in the air.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

But you have to read the graph carefully, the `entire` parabola doesn't model the package being dropped. Part of that function is garbage and we don't want to use it.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

oh derp im so dumb... x is our time.....

zepdrix (zepdrix):

so thats even more straight forward, we can't have negative time, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay -5 ≤ x ≤ 20 0 ≤ x ≤ 15 x ≥ 0 all real numbers ore the options

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Our x, time, can range from 0 (the time when the package is dropped) to when it hits the ground. So what seems reasonable? Is our package in the air for an infinite amount of time? Hmmm no, so we don't want all real numbers. We only want to track the time for a lil while

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it couldnt be 1 or 4 because thoseinclude negatives

zepdrix (zepdrix):

correct c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you i knew this i was just confused by the wording od the question :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops! xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 ≤ x ≤ 30 0 ≤ x ≤ 14400 -30 ≤ x ≤ 30 All real numbers is the real possibles :3

zepdrix (zepdrix):

this is for the range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

domain

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I thought the first set of options were for the domain +_+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman again :3 answer me when i call you young man :3

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

There is no need tagging me, if zepdrix is helping you. He is a much better mathematician than me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he left :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i put wrong variables by accident he got cofused and left @SolomonZelman
