If the Earth were closer to the sun, would the gravitational force between the two become stronger or weaker?

The general equation for gravitational force is \[Fg = \frac{Gm_{1}m_{2}}{r^2}\] Where 'r' is the distance between the two masses, m1 and m2. So, if 'r' increases, will the force increase or decrease, based on the relationships in the equation.
