Ok, well can you show me some work before we progress?
I want to see how you're doing/ what your understanding is.
i did it in my head but i did, x+2x first so it = 3?
then 8+11
19
then divide
First step, don't do it in your head, get a piece of paper and write it down, otherwise you'll do it wrong.
okay
\[x+11=2x+8\] Lets write it down here as well, for reference.
okay
Ok well once you're done on paper, tell me what ya get :P
x+2x?
i got 6.33333333
you want to cancel the 2x on the right side, what would you do?
i honestly am confused
Ok, so the whole point of these questions is to isolate the variable (the letter) in this case it's x. What you do to one side lets say the left, you must also do it to the other, the right.
Does that make sense?
kinda
so cancel the 2x? and that would make it 1
0
okay so the answer would be 19?
Don't let the letter confuse you, it's just basic arithmetic. It's basically saying 2-2, with a variable.
Nope that's wrong.
then you add 11+8 >?
Why would you add 11? You want to cancel it on the left side, as I said before, we want the numbers with the letters on the left side and just the numbers on the right side.
now i am completely confused.//
wait the answer is 8?
Alright well, I think the best way for you to learn is, to watch a few videos, here go on this site. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra
No sorry, that's wrong.
okay so you have 0+8
i dont have time for videos
got to have this assignment done by tonight
Youre going to subtract 11 from both sides.
i was just told to cancel it
The due date of your assignment is none of my concern, I'm here to just point to the right direction, and it's not my fault you're learning this last minute. Anyways I guess @DW101796 is going to teach you from now on, not sure if he'll explain to you why we do it, but it's up to you to do it how you want. With that, I leave you and say good luck.
